Kiernan narrow/medium bore D chanter on E-bay

There’s a Matt Kiernan narrow/medium bore D chanter up on E-bay

location: Belfast

That’s the same one that didn’t sell a while ago isn’t it?

Can’t see why it didn’t sell, they’re not pretty but the price is right and Matt’s chanter are no worse than a lot chanters that sell here for at least twice that much. I have one here myself.

That is a Kiernan concert pitch (medium).
His narrow Ds/D flats seemed to have looked a bit different:

I would even rate all of Matt´s chanters better than most others. Clearly a bargain

What is the difference, I don’t see it?

Mine looks slightly different, a bit heavier on the blocks, diameter at the bottom is 14 or 15 mm (didn’t have the callipers handy), wider than the one on e-bay.

Definitely a good chanter, beautiful sound - nicer to listen to than to look at.
The ivory isn’t original, is it?

Mick, the NB Kiernan has ornamental rings on the “Kiernan-typical-spade-shaped” foot trim - a feature I didn´t find on his concert pitches. I am not sure though.

Matt always corked his brass chanter caps. Nearly every piper added a trim later. Therefore all top trims look different.

I got it off ebay two years ago, it came this way. With plastic mount, no bottom ferrule. It’s been re-reeded since though.

Lovely playing Peter. Did you reed it yerself?
