Keyed High Whistles...

Hello all! I just got off of Daniel Bingamon’s site, and he’s in the process of making Keyed high whistles! This is great, I had always pondered how this could be done, and if anyone would ever do it. I would have, but the creative side of my brain…is…broke. When he does finish them, I shall have to see if “The Power That Be’s” lets go of my wallet. TPTB right now has my wallet focused on a lawn mower.

Daniel…I’m cheering for you!

Ralph Sweet also makes a keyed whistle. I’m not sure how useful keys are as half holing and cross fingering is so easy on most whistles.

The Sweets stopped making most of the keys and now only have the G# key. This is exicting I must get one.

G# is the one key I’d really love to have on a whistle. Locally, people play quite a few tunes in A and it’s tricky to half-hole that at any kind of speed, although I have got it down on one tune pretty well.

I’ve done G# keys that are lever operated and opened by the left pinky finger.

Thanks for the kind words. The whistle is under development and I made a cast pewter key for it today - There is now a log on the website to let others know about the progression of it.

I have a Sweet blackwood 3-key that I really enjoy. The G# and D# are incredibly handy. The long F is a but awkward for me, but still useful. Of course, I had to have him add a left thumb hole for C natural. For an old set-in-my-ways flute player like me, the setup is quite comfortable. (No recorder jokes please, it sounds nothing like a recorder!)
