Can somebody tell this newby (me) what notes the keys are for on a simple-system keyed flute and which fingers are used for which keys? I know that the keys are to obtain the notes which otherwise would be half-holed or cross-fingered, but what I want to know specifically is what kind of key(s) would typically be included with a 1-keyed, 2-keyed, 4-keyed, 6-keyed, and 8-keyed flute and, as I asked above, which fingers are used on the keys. Thanks!

Well, thanks, that was very informative. It did inspire a few more questions: 1. Does anybody here have experience with McGee flutes and can give a critique? 2. Pratten vs Rudall style - anybody have preferences they’d like to express? 3. Embouchure shape: Can anybody comment on the various shapes and their advantages?

HI everyone,
I am also very curious to know what people think of the McGee Flutes. I was looking at the webpage last night and I am amazed at them. I am looking for a new flute and this maker seems the most resonable. Does anyone have a McGee flute? Also I am looking into a Coruswood flute. Any opinions?
