Hi folks, I just got an email from The Philadelphia Ceili Group, and it’s about Kevin Henry, and his general bio and music. Nice story, and interesting reading; thought some of you might enjoy it as I did:

He is quite a guy! I hope that when I am his age, I can remember a quarter of the tunes and stories he can trot right out!
Of course, I’ll be doing well to even have a quarter of as many!
The final line speaks volumes…
“… A lot of these players that play so fast–they’re not putting emphasis on any particular note. There’s no room for heart. The heart is the main thing.”
In St. Louis this year I told him I’d leave him my Murray in my will (he tracked me all over Schlafly’s specifically to have a toot on it because he thought it was pretty).
And hey, at the rate he’s going, he probably will outlive me.
Really, really nice man, kind to everyone and a great one with a story. His wife Pauline’s a hoot!
“You often heard the old people saying ‘he put the nia into it’, where nia means splendid nature in the Gaelic. A lot of these players that play so fast–they’re not putting emphasis on any particular note. There’s no room for heart. The heart is the main thing.”
Splendid.
