Hi I just got my paws on Kevin Henry’s CD a couple of days back. If you are a fan of the “flute geezers” you Absolutely have to get this one! Its all raw, honest puredrop fluteplaying in Sligo style. It has made it to my top 4 flute CDs charts. (the other 3, in jumbled order are: “Up and Away” by Frankie Gavin, John Creaven’s “The Story so far” and John Skelton’s “A Few Tunes”) Its so good that I actually cycled the CD twice through consecutively yesterday! Nice fiddling and some other instruments on some tracks.
Listen to the Flatley recording as well and you can definitely hear Henry’s influence in some of the same tunes.
Not at all odd since he taught Michael.

Know where I can get a copy? I’ve only heard small clips.
Kevin Krell
I’ve not heard Kevin Henry’s CD, but there is a superb set of reels on Laurence Nugent’s “Windy Gap” where Laurence and Kevin play duet in the old style. Well worth the price of the CD for that track alone.

Good picks, El!
The Kevin Henry and John Creaven cd’s you mentioned are both sitting on the front passenger seat of my car right now.
edited to say that the Kevin Henry is sometimes hard to get in the States, but Ossian U.S.A. will get it for you, even though I don’t think it’s listed in their catalog.
B flat or begone!

Is this a flute album of his? I know he has another CD that has flute, but along with pipes, whistles, bells, etc., called a Family Tradition, or somesuch name.. What’s the title of this one?
Hi Gordon,
The full title is “One’s Own Place - A Family Tradition”. Its mostly flute, some fiddling and some of his family members playing. There are some recitations too, but personally I’d rather listen to Seamus Ennis tell funny stories.
Kevin Henry’s CD One’s Own Place should be available thru Bogfire.
Thanks,Eldarion,
That one is also available through Philippe Varlet at Celtic Grooves – I usually buy through him. If it’s mostly flute, I’ll probably go for it, though the “recitations” sorta scared me off… The Gavin, Creaven, Skelton company is right where my tastes lie, so I’ll be happy to add another one in that “most-listened-to” camp. Thanks again.
