Hi guys,still dead after 3 weeks of building work on the new/old house.
I got a call from Mr Hinnigan 2 days ago saying that he has 2 movies this summer in Hollywood with James Horner and he wants me to make some Quenas (S/American flutes) in alloy and in strange keys,this should be interesting.
If I can make them work well I might make a few extra for sale.
G is the main key for this flute but he wants them in B,Eb,F and low D.
Once we get one working I’ll put up a clip of him playing it.

I love quenas. I’ve been playing for some years, since one was brought back to me from Ecuador. Yes, G is the traditional key for Andean music, but if you’re not playing Andean music on one there’s certainly no reason not to make them in any key you want.
If you can make a whistle work you can certainly make a quena work. Just make a whistle, leave out the fipple, and there ya go!
I haven’t made any in metal yet myself, but I’ve got several feet of aluminum tubing earmarked for the process.
