If I blow harder and more directly into the dizi should I get the higher octave like with my regular flute? It’s getting boring with only one. I played clarinet as a kid so this whole flute thing is new to me but I really love it!
Hello Eliyahna, you probably won’t find many Dizi (or Dize) flute players here, but it is a simple system flute, and should behave the same.
If you focus your airstream (only allow a very small opening between your lips) to be as small as possible when you blow into the flute, it should get you to the second octave, if all your fingers are covering the holes.
So, it depends on you, and also the quality of the flute. If it was a cheap flute that you got from Ebay or the like, then you shouldn’t expect much, like being able to play well into the 2nd octave. But, if it plays easily all through the first octave, you might just need some time with it.
