Hello all. I’m new to these forums, but have lurked and found them very informative and entertaining!
I’ve dabbled in the whistle for a few years now, but have finally decided to get serious-- I’ll be studying privately this summer with a teacher.
I decided to delve into low whistle, in hopes of adding some nice whistle touches to my upcoming cd of traditional Irish/Scottish music for harp and voice. My beautiful wide bore Reyburn Low D arrived in the mail today, and I can’t wait to get home from work to try it out! I ordered the off-set version, as I have the world’s smallest hands. From my first looks at the instrument, it was a wise choice.
As a harpist (or harpie as I like to say), it’s refreshing to find quality instruments at low price ranges. And don’t get me started about portability… even though the Low D is big for a whistle, it still beats carting around a 38 string harp!
You must have just woken up from that nap in your avatar, Doc!
PS, good luck with your new low whistle, CelticHarpie, it’s a real nice one. Mr Reyburn makes one of the best, with a very unique voice. One day, I’ll be ordering a Standard bore for myself.
