I put some poster tack under the windway of my Feadóg and it sounds quite nice now. I’d also recommend a Dixon tunable, which can be had for under $30 plus shipping.
I have a Hoover CPVC, which uses the Whitecap. I’ve put the Whitcap on the Feadóg and it sounds better than the tweaked Feadóg head.
After reading this you guys have talked me into getting a Feadog; where’s the best place to order one? Maybe I’ll get a Clarke original too, and a Shaw, yeah, a Shaw would be nice, and a puppy, a train set, and a pony,he he, just kidding. Really would like to know where to look for a Feadog, I think the whistle shop claims to be out of them.
Aaaaeeeee! She does have the gift! Thanks for the link B.Q.. I’ll give this shop a try. I can probably get by without the hat though, used to have one like it when I lived in St. Louis, actually I may still have it stuffed in a closet somewhere. Living in Phoenix there’s not much need for real hats, baseball caps are about it.
Are you quite sure now, like most peoples problems with (cheap) whistles on this board the stuff you describe is likely caused by blowing too hard. Like on a clarinet.
You’re problems are not likely to go away then playing any of the Generation/Oak/Walton type whistles. All of which are essentially quite playable although note the Walton Mello D is too short and has a sharp bottom D [part of Jerry Freeman’s tweak is adding a bit of tube to the bottom of the mD to bring it in tune]. Buying any whistle, you need to try before you buy and pick one that suits otherwise you may end with a croaky one and that goes for cheap, medium high and tweaked ones alike, consistency is a rare thing.
