I am new to this topic but simpathize with all. Until a year ago was 100 lbs overweight. Then I started this “health plan.” Basicly I became a strict vegetarian(nothing that come from an animal of any sort, seafood included) and eat nothing with added oils, but can eat as many complex carbs as I want. It is not a diet, as I will never stop eating this way. It is also very hard. I am a Manager at a fast food restraunt and am always tempted. But I’ve lost a net 35lbs since January (lost 45 gained back 10 from said temptations). But I am aiming at 160 for body. Again, very hard for a meat and potatoes Wisconsin cheesehead. But we all plug on together.

I am a displaced cheesehead myself.I miss the cheese also but for a different reason. It is more expensive than steak here and no longer in the budget…$7.95 per lb. for extra sharp cheddar, Local ! …not even Wis. cheese or the other place …New york).No longer can I have a daily snack of a nice wegde with a crispy, juicy apple.

Where was home in Wisconsin?
Sheboygan for me, was back on monday and tuesday.
I lived in Racine 3 times for a total of 9 years, in Platteville 0nce for 2 years , in Beaver Dam twice for a total of 3 years and once in Adams-Friendship for almost a year.In other words (aside from Racine ) in the middle of nowhere 
I’ve been to Sheboygen a few times, took the car ferry across the lake when we went on family vacations.A very cold place in winter!

Beaver Dam!? Rutabaga capitol of the World! Holy Cow, I spent over 25 summer fishing trips in that town. I’m originally from the Chicago area and we used to drive up for 2 weeks every July and sometimes for a week of fall fishing as well. It took over 12 hours to get there in the late 50’s before expressways. Hell, after Eau Clare, the roads were gravel. We used to stay at Beaver Dam Lake Resort run by Kenny Holstein and his wife Marg, both now sadly departed.
Once, on a cold, rainy and windy late September day, the guys decided it was just too miserable to go out on the lake. So, we decided to go into town for a burger and a beer at, “The Spot”. Well, one beer led to another and about 4:00 PM the town cop rounded us up (we were having an innocent game of football in the middle of main street using a rutabaga as a football). The cop led both our cars all seven miles back to Kenny’s at about 25 MPH, gave us a good talking to but didn’t write one ticket. Only in a small Wisconsin town!
The town is still there and still largely unchanged. My wife and I drive over from Minneapolis at least once a year now just to have lunch and drink a toast to Gene, my father-in-law and a great friend and fishing companion of many years. Beaver Dam and its’ surrounding lakes was his favorite spot on earth.
Ahh the memories.
Small world! the last time I went back for a visit was 15 years ago. The lake had been drained to kill off the carp and bullheads. It was strange to see shrubs ,weeds and trees where I used to fish and water ski. Main street now has traffic lights though they turn them all to flashing yellow at 11:00 pm.Same as turning them off. 
Most of the stores downtown( all 2 blocks ) were empty but the 35 area bars were still going
strong.They have built a mall, a new library and bowling alley. They still have a dirt race track and one of the best county fairs going.
I have alot of good memories of that town( ice fishing , driving a car 50 miles an hour across the frozen lake then spinning awesome donuts! Tubing the flooded river,carp spearing, swimming,making fun of Illinois tourists’ driving , friendly people etc…) Although I lived many other places for longer it is where I think of when I think of home.All the family has moved from there except an older sister .My Mother passed two years ago. Most of my school days friends have moved (they left after high scholl to work in the oil fields in Oklahoma or went to Madison or Milwaukee) I have to take a vacation this summer and visit. I stll have relatives in Racine,Columbus,Kenosha and some in Rockford , Ill. too!
