just must tell you

Many of you may already know, but I just feel I want to tell you this. Track 5 on lunasa’s “merry sisters of fate” is just SO beautiful, it almost hurts, it really nearly makes me cry. And it’s such a simple tune that I actually can play some of it. When I listen to that tune, and I mean really listen to it well, it makes me realize what it takes to play a tune well, you must FEEL the music and not just play notes, when music is played well it must be mirror image of your soul, of your true emotions, only then is it great.
That’s what I admire about truely great music: it’s so absolutely and completely honest.

I totally agree (about feeling the music, that is…I haven’t heard the tune you mention). I think that’s one reason I play airs so much better than dance tunes…as a singer, they “speak” to me more clearly and get into my soul.

Redwolf

Same with me Redwolf, the airs are for me, they are more “me”. (also cuz they’re slower :slight_smile: )
damn, typos again..

Just to let you know, if you haven’t already, Lunasa did finally release their compilation book, has the sheet music to (most) of the songs off of their first three albums. (A couple of the original composition one’s aren’t there…January Snows from Otherworld comes to mind)

The book is around $20 US, and not bad. I just got mine a couple days ago and have been “noodling” with a couple the tunes.

Aodhan

This is supposedly it…I got it from The Session…

thanks, but I can’t read notation, well, not yet anyway. So far I try to trust my ears, and if need be, the amazing slowdowner. :slight_smile:

How 'bout the midi??

Maybe help get you started?

Very pretty tune…I have it bookmarked in my Sessions tunebook.

I also like Return From Fingal

Thanks for the link Kim! But, I prefer Lunasa’s version :wink:
And this is exactly what I meant, both are playing the the same tune, one is playing the notes, and one is playing his heart.
:wink:
But really, thanks.

I am sorry! I just noticed that you really didn’t ask for anything but was just making a statement about the tune. I agree! It’s a lovely tune and my first response when I hear a tune like it is that I want to learn it! So I assumed you would too. I’m sorry!

I like to look up tunes, I can read the notation a little bit, and then listen to the midi, then go for it on my own, using the notation and midi for assistance.

Kim

Exactly! It’s how I like to play along with Michael Card on Starkindler…he doesn’t play the tunes just the way the midis do, and even varies with notation…I just use them to “kick-start” me! Ha! After that, I abandon them and just play it the way I like. Sometimes I even vary from what Mr. Card (or John Mock or Chris Abell that plays on Starkindler) is playing…who’s going to sue a slightly pudgy housewife who plays for no one other than herself?

:smiley:

Kim, really, there is no need to apologize, I appreciate your giving me those links. I too love to learn tunes that hit a certain cord in me, but if I can, I try to learn them by listening to them played in such a way that “speaks” to me most. And if they’re too fast, I use my software to slow them down.
:slight_smile:

This is a beautiful tune and now one of my favorite.
And it is the perfect chance to use your Bb whistle and play along with them…

Yes Otter, yes!
I think I need to get a lowBb..

Yes Amar, call Colin immediately, you NEED one of his Bb whistles, heh, heh…

Loren

Loren!
If I knew I could manage the stretch, I’d order one for sure!!
But lemme get comfy with the lowDs first..am still waiting for my Burke to arrive..

[ This Message was edited by: amar on 2003-01-06 18:51 ]

Yeah, I hear ya man; I can barely make the stretch on my Low C’s, but then I have small hands and narrow fingers.

Have fun with the Burke when it arrives!

Loren

Aargh, low Bb whistle.
I don’t need a low Bb.
Pure WHOA.
Now A Bb tube is different?
But, no! I don’t need it
I *screech" don’t want it.
Said.
And I’m broke.
And I got my will.

Not aunt Emma’s,
If I had her will
that would be a way
if there was such aunt…

I can prove my will.
So much I could
Even give up smoking.
And finance the low Bb
Even in ebony, silver-keyed
At tobakey daily prices.

This is not a board;
this an MD conspiration;
they surround me;
they besiege me;
Tally-ho!
Schwizerland–O mammy
Luxembourg–Oh la la
Bourglinster–Blues

STOP! WHAT’S NEXT ?
Any MD from Andorra, by any chance and for the final kill ?

Hmmm…that’s the same reason I prefer dance tunes to airs. But then I’m a dancer, not a singer, and I like the rousing, lively tunes that get people moving. That’s not to say I don’t like to play slower tunes like waltzes (which also get people moving), but playing airs just hasn’t struck a cord with me–yet!
