Just made a whistle!

Cheers mate,
I built around two dozen plastic ones before I started messing with metal, and that only happened because I found a bit of aluminium tube downstairs and went HMMMMMMM!!! I think I like making the metal ones partly because I like the sound, but mostly because they’re “my” design. In reality they’re an amalgam of all the stuff I found on the net, allied to a basic KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) attitude of mind, i.e. a bit of pipe with holes in it,and a bit of wood, what could be simpler?

Devondancer,
Making a musical instrument is a good thing and you are to be congratulated for your efforts. Making a small musical instrument, such as a whistle, is a very good thing. (I can tell you from experience that guitars and banjos tend to accummulate and take up MUCH more space than a whistle). A couple of things that you will find is that your next whistle will sound better (its all by degree so you’ll have to make AT LEAST several) and that there really isn’t any good reason to stop making whistles. Keep up the good work! kbr

Yes - I play guitar too and felt that
a) making one was beyond my capabilities
b) we already have three in the house and they are rather large.
Hence the whistle.
I improved the fipple of the one I made and it’s louder now, and much sweeter - I like the tone: the looks need work. Got to drill better holes!Hope to start the next one this week (orange plastic tube), then a black narrow bore plastic as I’ve got that pipe too, then try metal - found some great tube at work! So I have plans . . .
Thanks for all the encouragement.
