Just got pipes

I just received a used Kirk Lynch 1/2 set this past week. It is Honduran Rosewood and brass. The chanter was made in 1990, the drones in 1991. Kirk replaced a section of brass tubing in the base drone and put in new reeds. Now to lock myself away and practice, practice, practice. :slight_smile:

congrats on the pipes… take lots of breaks in the beginning to avoid any strain or stress related injuries.

i don’t yet know the secret handshake or the secret password, but i know there are secrets.

i have the heather clarke tutor. and i have the npu vidoes. but in my last 4 lessons (2 from Patrick D’arcy, and 2 group lessons at north hero) i learned at least 10 things that are not ANYWHERE in those teaching materials. :astonished:

so yes, do come to a tionol. and if you get frustrated, share. the problem will not always be you.

I plan on attending North Hero next summer. Right now I am just doing excercises to get used to the finger positions. I thought I’d get confused by the GHB fingering I use on my smallpipes, but it really hasn’t been a problem. I played one tune this morning (it sounded like crap) and realized how much fun it is going to be to wrestle with this beast.

A friend of mine is waiting for a 3/4 set from Seth Gallagher this fall/winter. We also know of several people with practice sets, so we are going to start up a club here in the central Pennslyvania area. There are experienced pipers within driving distance, so between tapes, CDs and hands on help, we are looking forward to the learning experience.

BTW, this forum is extremely helpful. I’ve already fixed a sharp back D with info I found here.
