Just a notaion Q

OK say you notation says some like like f2d for instance, what does the 2 mean? 2 repeated notes or is it a roll or what?

I thought that ffd would be f-f-d, but f2d would be f of twice the length as the normal note…so if we’re talking eighth notes, it would be a quarter note instead.

Tyghress is right, hold the note twice as long.

You might also see f>d in a polka, which means f gets held a little longer than the d, or less often f<d, which mean you snap to the d quickly.
