I just got the Duhk’s CD. It’s pretty amazing. Jordan is our uilleann piper on this forum. If you heard this album being played you wouldn’t rest until you found out who it was. The fiddler (Tania Elizabeth), sounds like Liz Carroll. She starts the CD off with a great reel called The Green Fields of Glentown, and has all the right ornaments…bowed triplets sound like Tommy People’s. Jordan plays the tenor banjo and sounds like Mick Moloney. Jordan’s DADGAD guitar playing is fine too, as is his whistle playing. He doesn’t play the pipes on this yr. 2002 album…maybe next album. The Duhks are touring a lot, as I understand, and guess what…they all look to be quite young, maybe 19-20 years old? Their repertoire includes Celtic, French Canadian, and some Old Timey tunes…“Stoney Point” sounds as good as anything i’ve heard at the Grand Ole Opry. Leonard’s frailing sounds like one cut I heard on Patrick Street’s album. The Bantry Girls Lament, sung by Jessica Havey (?) sounds akin to the vocalist on Solas’ album…good voice, nice ornaments.
These guys are good! Watch out! Four members in this band and they produce a fine sound…great engineering on the album too.
