Hello,
What can anybody tell me about this whistle?

Well, It’s my main whistle unless I’m playing in a loud session…Then I reach for my Copeland Brass D. I like it because it sort of forces me to use half-holing exclusively… Although at speed I’m not sure if my half holing is any better than the 0xx000 fingering for C nat.

Ayup. They-as a wicked good whistle they-a.
Chris, from NH
Damn New Englanders: Always talking with those funny accents =;^) Actually that’s sort of a Maine Salty Dog specific sort of accent you’re affecting there, isn’t it Chris?
Yeah Loren,
The old NH accent is very, very close to the old Maine accent. Not a whole lot of people in NH speak that way anymore, but every once in a while you’ll run across an old-timer who talks that way and it’s a real treat. There are a couple of families in my town who have been in Nelson since the dinosaurs walked the earth, and to someone from your neck of the woods they’d be about as understandable as someone from the backwoods of County Kerry.
Best,
Chris
P.S. - Pat still hasn’t sent my flute!!! Dang him
I’d probably be able to make out every 3rd or 4th word Chris , I did live in Mass for a few years while in High School ya know. In fact, one of the schools I went to, Cushing Academy, played sports against teams from all over New England, so I was always travelling to N.H., VT., Conn., etc. for Cross Country races and Track Meets.
Geeze, I swear, I spent almost every minute of my Sophomore year on bus or in tiny little van travelling around New England. Thank goodness we didn’t have an indoor track season at that school, at least I got the winter off to ski and play (informal) Ice Hockey (I was a lously B-ball player and didn’t want to wrestle).
I skipped my Junior year (moved to Aspen and became a temporary ski bum), and then transferred to a public school for my senior year (Oakmont) - We mostly just drove all over Mass that year, instead of the whole of New England, so that was much better!
Uh…are we off topic yet?
Anyway, the majority of the 3-4 years I lived in New England was great fun…and I even learned to understand the language!
Wow! What an inpour of responses in such a short time.
I am sure you all enjoy visiting with each other and sharing quips. :0)
Thanks, Michael,
Enjoyed listening to the comparisons. Wish you would have had an O’Riordan .
I have fallen in love with the Traveler’s O’Riordan - D. Such a sweet pure sound.
Now, the clinker. How does O’Riordan compare to Sindt?
It’s been over two weeks since I received my Sindts (D and A). Never has the aquisition of a new whistle cured my WhOA disorder for so long. I haven’t even browsed the “High End” page since their arrival! Awesome whistles!!
There is a Cnat issue that has been covered in-depth in previous posts.

(sniff…sniff) Is that sarcasm I smell from the newbie? =;^)
Lilacrose -
Yeah, we can derail a discussion pretty quickly. The thing is, individual whistles have been discussed ad-nauseaum over the long history of this message board. As a rule, search the archives before asking a question. If you don’t find an answer, then ask the question. Or, like Loren and I, you can just waste bandwidth with anecdotes about your youthful days in New England, the tasteful piano accordionist we once met, or all the excitement that can be found in lovely Indiana.
Best,
Chris
The more you give the more there is.

Geez, not only can I translate a fairly ripe Downeast accent, I happened to LIKE the years I spent in West Laffalot, IN!
But being required to half-hole would really bug me. I don’t mind the occasional forked fingering, and there are times when I voluntarily half hole, but I want a reasonably happy Cnat with oxxooo.
No Loren, that was not sarcasm from the ‘newbie’. However, that comment could be considered encouragement. Let’s see, you’ll be celebrating your first anniversary very shortly.
It will be my goal during this next year to give ‘newbies’ more latitude.
Friendships are a wonderful gift and should be nurtured at every opportunity. I happen to enjoy reading the friendly banter if it doesn’t get too sappy.
I was just trying to get experienced information before purchasing a more expensive whistle than I picked up in Ireland in '96.
I guess I would have expected more from someone who is selling her whistle on ebay than -----
"Sindt Good, Poke in eye with
sharp stick Bad!!!
My thanks to all who responded to my honest question with sincere information.
Yes, Chris, I agree some subjects could go on ‘as nauseum’
I did try the archives first. I received no information when I entered ‘jon sindt’ and only one comment when I entered ‘sindt’.
Perhaps I will did not use the search correctly, but I will learn.
By the way, perhaps you could share your knowledge of the excitement in lovely Indiana!
