I was listening recently to a track from John William’s Steam cd. I can recall the name of the tunes, its two jigs. John Williams on flute, Liz Carroll on fiddle, and John Doyle on guitar. I was really amazed by Williams’ flute playing. Its great, nice and clean and driving. I wish he would record more flute.

I’ll second that! He’s a lovely player.
The two jigs in question would be “Johnny O’Leary’s” and “Patrick Maloney’s Favourite” … of course, I only know this because based on your recommendation I downloaded the CD from iTunes this morning, and THANK YOU! It’s wonderful!!! I’ve always loved his concertina & kordgeon playing, so much happiness there PLUS a special flute bonus – WOW!
Funny, I was just admiring his whistle playing in the “Vega set” thread, but I didn’t know about this CD; was under my usual rock, I guess.
Anyway, thank you so much! ![]()
Incidentally, all Green Linnet CDs are $10 right now (according to their website) – and they’re all now available on iTunes as well.
Apparently the $10 deal translates to iTunes too – I downloaded all of “Steam” for $9.99.
Glad you liked the tunes. I learned Johnny O’Learys yesterday, he is using an Eb flute, for any of you who want to learn it.
I dont really do ITunes, but i must reccomend emusic.com $10 a month, and you get 40 mp3 downloads. They have a large celtic section. The mp3’s are good quality, and download time is quick. I can usually get three albums a month, and for $10 thats a steal. Check out their selection if you are insterested in subscribing.
