About a year ago I ordered a Sindt B, just out of hospital and not feeling the greatest Ineeded to buy myself something.
Last week at long last a parcel arrived from Sindt whistles. There was a D in it. I immediately passed that on to a friend and neighbour who had my own D on loan and was looking for one for herself. I then contacted John to say I had found a home for the D but that I really had ordered a B for myself but no harm done apart for a slight disappointment.
He got back to me a few days later saying he’d make me a B anyway. Which just arrived. A fine gentleman he is.
We are blessed in the whistle community to have a lot of fine human beings making instruments and John Sindt is as good an example as you’ll get. I have lost count of how many emails I’ve received from people who were not only delighted by the instruments but by John’s customer service.
I’ve told the story before about Turlach Boylan and Zac Leger staying at my house a few years ago. After they cleared security, they were blindfolded, led into the Chiff & Fipple Whistle Repository, unblindfolded, and allowed to play any and all whistles therein. Turlach played whistle after whistle and I noted the time he spent playing each, usually just a few bars and he’d move on. When he got the Sindt, he played it a bit longer and then handed it to me and said “That. That’s the stuff.”
I bought a Sindt whistle used from someone on this forum. I love it. So I was a little surpised one day to find a package from John in the mail. It contained a D whistle – I’d forgotten that almost two years ago I’d gotten on the “list”. No problem, though, I’m happy to have two. (And John’s making me an E tube to boot.)
Is the Whistle Repository the place from where Lee Harvey O’Swald tossed an empty Guiness bottle at the mayor of Cleveland during the St. Patty’s Day parade, only to find that the mayor was struck with a Murphy’s Stout bottle hurled by an unknown drunk from behind a grassy knoll?
