I just got in a little over an hour ago from the Kilkenny Road CD release party at Kilkenny Restaurant here in Tulsa. This is the band that C&Fer John N plays for and it was a major event! I called and got on the list for a seat before we even left the house and even so, we stood for a half an hour before getting a seat. We only got the seats because a young couple let us share their table.
The place was packed. I mean, shoulder to shoulder people. The band was great as usual and I was having a great time! The young couple got up and we told the waiter that if a couple needed a seat, to let them share our table. Soon a couple came and sat with us and they were very nice people!
I saw John speaking to a handsome young man and immediately wondered who it was (I had my suspicions). Sure enough…it was kardshark87! We managed to all get together and take a picture during one of John’s breaks.
My delight of the evening was when I passed my greatest whistle treasure to John and he played a tune on it in front of all those people. Here he is, playing my Mack Hoover D. It was so great to see this whistle being played the way it deserves to be played!
I only got to stay a couple of hours, but I had such a great time! Congratulations, John on the release of your new CD!
Dang! Had I known you and Brent were there I would have elbowed my way through the crowd to say hello, at least. Sadly, I didn’t have the foresight to call ahead and was told the wait for a table would be an hour and a half. At that point the wife and I decided we’d just buy a CD, say hi to the guys in the band, and retreat to Zio’s for pizza.
Big time congrats are definitely in order for John and all the Kilkenny Road guys for their new CD, for the success of the CD Party, and for the nice picture and write-up in the paper this week. For anyone who’s interested, you can listen to some sample tracks or even buy a CD (I think) at http://www.kilkennyroad.com/
By the way, I want to assure everyone that John is a lovely guy. If his expression in the picture seems a tad, uh, maniacal, I’m certain it’s due entirely to the nearness of the camera’s flash, or maybe panic at the sight of the pressing crowds.
(Hey Brent, is that you in the picture? You look a foot taller and a whole lot older than you did last spring!)
I’d really wanted to go to this, but my husband is out of the country right now, and my built-in babysitter (15 year old daughter) spent the night at a friend’s house. I’m also recovering from some very painful dental work, bleah.

I looked for you, I felt sure you’d be there! I looked for Walden too, because he said he might come too. Sigh.
But it was a GREAT time! And yes, the CD is fantastic, I was very much impressed. I listened to it just as soon as I got home and I kept turning to my husband saying “You hear that whistle?? That’s my friend playing that whistle!!”
Next time we need to plan a bit better. Parties of 6 or more could reserve a table. When are you releasing another CD, John?

Thank you! After seeing the young ladies that were at the restaurant, I was feeling slightly more pudgy than usual. But hey, I’m 40 years old (or gonna be in March)! These girls were like…what? 12? LOL Just kidding, but they were young.
