I so hook-line-and-sinker fell for that… I was about to write to this friend who digs Coltrane and Davis and who teases me for my odd interest in the whistle… “Coltrane, still weak from his recent struggle with smack, used the whistle as a means of strengthening his embouchure and breath capacity”. Duh!
I fell for this a while back. I play sax also and am a Coltrane fan. So when I heard about some recordings of Trane playing penny whistle I was hot to trot. Then I found out it was a hoax. Darn.
