Joe McKenna is coming, to town!

I was told that Joe McKenna, Mr. Eb himself, would be the guest at the Seattle tionol next Feb. Confirm or deny?

Yes -Joe is playing at the Seattle tionól .I was talking to him last week and thats what he told me .I am trying to decide if I will go with him ,just for the craic . Stephen

Do Steven… it’ll be a laugh!

Patrick.

Is Joe still wailing away on his “sharp set,” I guess you’d call it?
There’s a fellow near Seattle who has an “Eb” (slightly sharp of D) Willie Rousome set. Get those two together with Joe Shannon and you’re in business!
Does Joe still play that O’Meally C# set he had on his first record? If you mashed the two sets together maybe you’d be in concert pitch…

Just curious…does Joe’s wife Antoinette still accompany him on harp? They had a lovely album, put out around 1978.

Joe is playing a concert set of his own making for at least the last 7 or 8 years.I made a new top for the chanter Joe used to use with the c sharp set .It is a Leo Rowsome boxwood with 3 or 4 keys.It is sitting in a drawer in my house for the last year or so.A beautiful chanter.Joe,s wife still accompanys him . Stephen.

Does Joe still have that double bass reg for the O’Meally? (Like many O’Meally sets this one was built with middle, bass, and double bass regulators, no tenor. O’Meally himself played like Rowsome, but single notes, and he really went to town on the double bass. The liner notes of the first album explain that Ginsberg made a tenor reg for the set, giving your standard configuration) What’s the set doing, just gathering dust? Seems a shame.

Joe has plans to get the O,Mealy pipes up and running again, but finding time is the problem.Stephen
