Jethro Tull Solstice Bells

Ok so I’ d been asked to play low whistle for the flute part of Jethro Tull’s Solstice Bells. Haven"'to got the foggiest! anyone got the sheet music?

Get a notepad, a quiet room, and listen to it, in as high a quality as you can. Asking for help with Jethro Tull on a traditional Irish forum is unlikely to fall within very many people’s interests, and sheet music eliminates even more people from your potential pool of helpers. Start with learning the basic melody, since many instrumental breaks are derived from that.

I’ve got a book of Jethro Tull flute music, but pretty sure Solstice Bells isn’t in it. Actually, from memory, there are a whole lot of descending scales in it, so if you figure out the key it shouldn’t be too difficult.

But not really in this case. The flute “breaks” are mostly noodly little scale bits. And key of F major, so you probably want an F or C whistle.

What I really want is one of those magic microphones that lets you double-track your voice and play the flute without actually blowing it.

Happy Thanksgiving …

In concert pitch, F Major. Transpose the dots down to D Major fingering for easier reading on F whistle. Use a high F whistle (like a Gen F) to avoid playing everything up an octave.

Or transpose the dots up to G Major fingering for easier reading on C whistle, no 8va needed. That would be my choice.
