I saw a news item about a guy who has attached a small jet engine to one of those boards that you lie on your back to go down mountian roads. As if there aren’t enough ways to die!
I’ve owned a number of Beetles in my time. All of which weren’t rocket poweref, one of which had a Porsche 944 engine. The 994 Bug was the first to die.
I’ve heard about this before; the engineering is not bad and its not a cobbled together hot rod thing. Weight distribution is probably 50/50 and you can still pass your smog test. The scary is the 2 engine vespa that is also on the site. I know a couple of vespa tifosi and they done AMAZing things to a scooter to make it go fast.
I dont know how VW ever got away cheekily calling the new car a “Beetle” ! It is so far removed from the original, i mean water cooled/ engine in front!!! WTF?
We were Bug-crazed in highschool, and some of the guys went to see the Bug Nationals. Teams doing enging swaps on bugs in under 10 minutes, bug drag and autocross races, and other events.
The darlings of the show were a flat-8-cylinder bug (forget the back seat!) and a bug with a blown 426 Hemi. The wheelie-bars (to prevent unintended ground-loops when you hit the ‘loud’ pedal) were longer than the car’s body. What fun!
My bug was a '74 SuperBeetle, dead stock except for the duct-tape.
-Just so a foreign power doesn’t mistake the huge IR signature of the afterburner for missile liftoff. -Hate for WW III
to start from a street race. I hate it when that happens.
