Jerry-Tweaked Shaw A - GONE ALREADY

Wanderer’s review of his Jerry-tweaked whistle reminded me that I have a Jerry-tweaked Shaw A that I’ve never been able to play (the reach is too uncomfortable for me). I won the whistle in a raffle, so I don’t want to sell it, but would like it to be enjoyed by somebody who can actually play it.

So if there’s anyone who’d like a Shaw A, I’ll give it to the first person who sends me an email with a minimum eight-line poem about anything at all – but it must include the words “chalky” “scornful” and “railroad.”

Mini-rules: It must rhyme (none of that free-verse stuff) and the three special words must be used appropriately. Neatness counts.

WE HAVE A WINNER! Two minutes and 7 viewers after I posted this, I received an email with a VERY clever poem using the three words correctly and rhyming. Amazing.

Well, post the poem already! We’re curious.

Let me guess
There once was a man from Nantucket,
Who tried to ryme the words “chalky” “scornful” and “railroad”,
But gave up and said **** **.

Heres a original I wrote when I was in the service and received a “Dear John letter”.

A Question?
Looking in the mirror
My skin is damp and pale
I thought that I’d find heaven
but, instead I found hell

For since you left me
I feel like a sacred lamb
I miss the love and tenderness
does anyone give a damn

So I look up into the blue sky
and ask the same question
Does anyone really care
Yes, I would hope so

I haven’t looked at these poems in almost 20 years. Heres another I’ll share:

The Great Date
Here I sit behind the oak
my glass is filled to the rim
the bottle she stares at me
yes, she has found a friend

This will be a great date
her color is of light tan
If I can finish what I’ve started
I’ll be one hell of a man

Oh, I couldn’t. It was … um… rather… snarky.
No, really it wasn’t, but I’d need to get permission from the author since I didn’t say I was going to post it. So if he/she wants to send me an email and let me know it’s okay, I’ll post it!

Susan

Here you are…

Chalky wandered on a summer’s day
Along the railroad he went his way
Until a train came down the track
And hammered Chalky in the back

So off to heaven he duly went
At last his lonely life was spent
But at the gates he was refused
By a scornful angel for not paying his dues.

Thanks Susan.

Wish I’d seen this earlier. I tried to buy a Shaw Bb, A, or G from Jerry yesterday but was informed he no longer does them.

Boohoo.
