-Recommendations for jazz standards recorded on wood simple system, all-wood Boehm system or wood-headjointed metal Boehm flutes? Limited imagination, skill and talent hasn’t put me onto it in my own playing, but maybe there is something which could take the scales from my eyes and inspire. how about latin music? Seems there is quite the flute tradition in some parts of central/south america. Songs like Lagrimas Negas, Siempre me va bien, and Po’Gozar that we play in our Latin Jazz ensemble would work great on an old style flute. I’m lacking all the charts at the moment so the proper spellings of some may be off…
As far as music recorded on such a flute I would love to know some as well! Have you looked into the oft-mentioned-here Jean-Michel Veillon? Or Marco Granados from Venezuela? He plays silver flute but may lead you in a good direction, and there are some sound clips on his web site: http://www.sunflute.com/unmundobio.htm.

It’ll be hard going to play convincing jazz unless you have a keyed flute or you are a fiend at half-holing but there is no reason why you can’t play jazz on a simple system flute. Certainly you should start off playing bluesy and folksy melodies and improvise without getting excessively chromatic at first. Then take it wherever you want to go.
Listen to, and learn, simple tunes like Herbie Mann’s Come On Home. Listen to good flute players like Eric Dolphy, Roland Kirk and Charles Lloyd. The latter two play folksy material sometimes. You could also pick up folksy material from groups like the Jimmy Giuffre trio. Try their The Train and the River. If you are playing a D flute, try playing blues in A and E. You can improvise fairly convincingly even on a keyless flute with practice.
Flutist Chris Norman used the belong to the group Skydance, which is known for its fusion of celtic and jazz styles. He played with the group on 2 albums: Way Out to Hope Street and Labyrinth. I have not heard these myself.
