Dale, your current avatar (squirrel with flashing red eye) reminds me of something:
On a cattle drive my dad found a cow skull complete with horns. His idea (serious) was to mount it on the family room wall and wire the eyes with red Christmas lights.
I travelled across the state yesterday, and I stopped at two Mc Donald’s restuarants for coffee. Invariably I am asked whether my coffee is “for here or to go”. But it doesn’t matter where you consume the coffee; it comes in the same disposable cup with lid. The order taker should punch one of the keys (it doesn’t matter which one) and not ask the question. However, if they ask me, I usually tell them the truth that I am going to drink part of it in the store and take the rest with me to go. Then they have to figure out which button to press.
I watched the worker loading up the hopper of potatoes at the French fry cooker. The potatoes come in plastic bags in cardboard boxes. I have often wondered whether you could get fat just working near the French fry cooker, or whether you actually have to eat the French fries? Since the French fry cookers are in such a prominent position at the front of the stores by the counter, if I were the store manager, I would have the thinest person on my staff operate the French fry cooker. The other way around doesn’t work for me. I don’t think that it is a perk that workers at McDonalds get a free meal.
I love pulling up to the drive-through and ask for take-out. It throws them completely off.
The reason the fries come frozen in a bag that is contained by a box is that Mickie Ds treats their fries with a milk and wheat coating. They are being sued by a few people who have milk allergies for not noting this in their “reveal all” labelling.
They were also sued by two Hindu men for not telling that they put beef fat into their fries. It is a religious offense for a Hindu to eat meat from a cow, because cows are held as sacred in Hinduism. For a great many years, McDonald’s used beef fat to fry their fries and never put that on the labels, now they’re required to say so. The same isn’t (yet) true for milk.
McDonalds has had (in my opinion) an arrogence about the food they serve. It’s obviously bad for you(as many fast foods are) and they’ve done little to nothing to offer healthy options to those who don’t want the usual fare. A salad doesn’t cut it (as the dressings are often higher in fat than a big mac) and while a fruit salad may make a nice snack, it isn’t a meal. What makes it worse is that McDonalds has managed to “cut” their food with ingredients that you may not suspect and you may end up eating an additive that you do not want in your body.
I know that Burger King was serving a BK veggie . . . that was over a year or two ago and I thought they were tasty. I was happy they had that option for those who may not want beef or fish or chicken.
A dirty little secret of mine is that while a teenager I briefly worked in fast food. The truth is that veggie burgers are fried in the grease of the ground cow muscle on the same grill using the same flippers and the same unwashed hands.
Also, we were required to wear gloves while sweeping or mopping the floor, but not while cooking. I’m not making that up!
I ordered one of the BK veggie sandwiches. For the price of the sandwich, I thought that I was going to receive some kind of a soy burger. Instead, I got a bun with lettuce, tomato, and pickles. I felt like saying, “Where’s the beef?” It was a rip off.
There should be a soy burger on it. If there wasn’t one, go back and tell them to make you a new one. They will, for free most likely. Just don’t mention that it’s been a long time ago.
The BK veggie was a soy burger with lettuce and tomato and pickles. At least that’s what I recieved when I ordered it.
I know that Subway offers a veggie sub(just cold veggies . . . yuck) and a veggie pattie, which is a veg pattie with veggies and cheese(if you wish). The pattie’s served hot and tastes pretty good when paired with the veggies you choose. I can’t stand raw onions, so I order mine with lettuce, pickles, and a slice of cheese.
If the Subway near you offers a veg pattie sandwich, you may enjoy it.
Some places it actually makes a difference because there’s no sales tax on dine-in but sales tax is charged on to-go orders. When in given the option, say it’s dine-in and then just leave with it. You may not get a sack, but you save 6 percent. The food cops are not going to chase you down.
