I read a lot of posts concerning this gentleman. So I listened to a few snipettes from his albums on amazon.com. I liked the way he plays slow and easy.
I am not much of a big fan yet of the jigs and such mostly becuase I am new and can’t get the fast fingering down yet.
Are there any other players that play slow such as Galway? I mostly am learning to play with just a slow downer and listening to a tune over and over.
Martin Hayes on fiddle. Any of his cd’s. (I haven’t heard Galway playing Irish music except on the Chieftains cd he’s featured on. He doesn’t play slowly on that one.)
Kevin Burke is another fiddler who doesn’t rush things. His live album is almost entirely solo, so you can really get a sense of his phrasing. Whistlers can really learn a lot by listening to fiddlers.
