Has anyone out there any information on this maker? Langwill’s Index, etc.? I bought an 8 key flute this year, stamped “J.F. Temple” and underneath that, “Utica.” A pipemaker friend patched up the cracks in the ebony - and it is ebony, not blackwood or dark cocus, he’s turned thousands of board feet of ebony. He also tells me Utica is pronounced “Ithaca.” Sterling silver keys in blocks, medium-small holes. Rather thin walls. The low C keys are linked, ala Rudall Rose etc., but in a distinctive way - the presses of the keys form a sort of rectangle, instead of being rounded. The G# key and block are angled across the top joint.
The headjoint is missing, unfortunately, and the Ebay seller used a digital camera with a resolution in the kilopixels it looked like - just awful photos - so I picked it up for quite cheap. Works very very well with other antique heads, though, the best being an E. Baack - another American maker.
He also tells me Utica is pronounced “Ithaca.”
That’s a bit startling–there is both an “Ithaca” NY (http://www.ci.ithaca.ny.us/) and a “Utica” NY (http://www.cityofutica.com/Home/). They are different cities. I think your friend is confused.
It’s pronounced “YEW-tih-ka”, FWIW. 
Hmmm, my friend’s from “****in’ Philly” as he likes to call it. Right down the turnpike or whatever. He has pulled my leg on occasion, though…
