Today,I had to go into Sunderland city centre for a workshop to do with my job,and when it came to lunch hour I hit the shops.
I was feeling rather pleased with myself for picking up a copy of the hilarious film ‘A mighty wind’ on DVD,and was on my way back to the office,when I decided to check out the window display of a shop that sells used instruments(mostly cheap acoustic guitars)that was on the way..
In the corner of the (mainly empty) window display was a silver coloured whistle-a quick glance and I realised it wasn’t conical,-no,it didn’t have a wooden fipple plug either,so it wasn’t a Shaw!
I quickly checked for the tell tale logo-YES!- It was plainly marked ‘Hohner’ and beneath the name ‘Bb’!!

I went inside,and after enquiring,I was told that the asking price was £5.
Fortuously,I had stuffed a £5 note in my pocket-Needless to say,a quick transaction and the whistle was mine!
When I got home I cleaned up the whistle and tried some exploratory notes,which were Very disappointing,so out came some tools,and after some tweaking of the windway and blade,I now possess a quite serviceable instrument!
No doubt I shall be listening to some ‘Kwela’ this weekend,now that I have a ‘Kwela whistle’ of my own!

You’ll find that even though they’re collectable and pretty to look at, they don’t play all that wonderfully (I, too, once had a Hohner Bb).
But whatever you do, please do not let anybody borrow it, even people you trust. That’s what I did with mine, and I never saw it again.

Actually,when I got home,I did a search for ‘Hohner whistle’,and came up with reviews and Pics of your Bb whistle.
Shame you have ‘lost’ it-hopefully your post may jog someone’s memory,or conscience,whatever the case may be!
Nah, the original person who borrowed it doesn’t have it. It’s somebody else. I’ve sent at least 20 emails and PMs and even a paper letter in the past year, but to no avail.
I only wanted it back because I had planned on giving it to the person who bid on it before I did who became my friend (I made a promise if I ever got rid of it I’d give it to him).
