Hello whistlers!
I have a waltons D, and evey time I play it, I notice that it’s just not clean enough, it’s sound is good, but isn’t pure and sharp as I want it to be,
what should I do?
Um…get a purer sounding whistle?

Waldens never play cleanly. It’s part of the cultural charm of an Irish whistle. Clares and Feadogs have a rasp to them, too.

I’ve been trying to decide which whistle is going to be my main choice for playing in the Willie Clancy Week workshops.
I’m down to Feadog Brass, Feadog Black anodised, or an Oak body with a Feadog Black head.
I tried my Waltons, but I do find the Waltons seems to rasp more than most, despite my efforts to get out all the spare bits of plastic. Some days it seems charming, and some days it’s just annoying.
I think I may have been a Waltons whistle in a previous incarnation.
Oops! I mean Waltons. Ahem…mm.. As my sister Clare keeps reminding me when she comes in from playing fetch with her Feadog.
It’s okay. I know I play poorly.
