Anyone know any sessions/session musicians in the norther New Jersey area.

Visit http://www.thesession.org get a member and search in members for people of NJ, you’ll find a few. Prehaps you can get in contact with some of them.

Try a guided tour by a shagger who lives in Canada but lives in Manhattan but lives off a foolish American girl who plays irtrad on fllute!

Look at the comments for a great laugh!

I believe that there’s a pub in Maplewood near the train station that has fairly regular sessions. Don’t have more details than that, but I’ll try and find out and left you know.

If you go to the Session.org website and click on Sessions and then use the search function, it comes up with five sessions in NJ. The ones in Jersey City, Newark, and Maplewood are definately in what most people mean when they say northern NJ. Stillwater is in northwestern NJ in beautiful Sussex Co., and Lambertville is a lovely artsy town on the Delaware just north of Trenton. So you have two alternatives if you don’t want to deal with the traffic in metro NJ.

The one in Maplewood is the one I was thinking about and it’s at a pub called St. James Gate every Thursday and Sunday night. I’ve heard great things about it from several sources, but have not yet made the trek down there.

I got to find out about theone in Sussex county that is really close to where I live (I live in Morris county it is the next county over) I don’t want to drive more than an hour.

Maplewood is in Morris County, on Route 24 a few miles south east of Morristown. Info at

The Sussex County session is just getting started, and looks like it will be a monthly affair. The next one will be on Friday, May 21st. It’s at the Mountain Brook Inn at 902 Route 521 in Middleville (Stillwater Twp) beginning at 8:00 PM. Take Route 80 west to the Hope exit, which will put you on 521, and come north through Blairstown.

For what it’s worth, I live in Stillwater, and it takes me about 45 minutes to get to Morristown. Also Friday nights on Routes 80 West and 206 North can be s…l…o…w, due to all the folks heading for their daschas in the country for the weekend.

OOPS…the Mountain Brook Inn is at 901 Route 521, Middleville, NJ.

I live in Randolph which borders Morristown so maybe I will get in touch with the Maplewood one hopefully it does not go late into the night on a Sunday night I would not be able to make Thursdays.  Yes crying and smiling at the same time.

Stopped in yesterday afternoon to St. James Gate for lunch with some friends who just moved to Maplewood. Nice pub, good food and great tunes. When we stop by again on our next visit, I’ll have to pack my whistles.

Who was playing? Was it Tony on the fiddle and Tom Dunne on the box?
