I’m thinning down my collection to only instruments that I regularly play, or that are antiques, or that have I have a sentimental attachment to, or got as gifts from people who will notice that they’re gone, etc., etc. So here’s what’s up for sale:
Parkhurst high E-flat whistle. This is the original Parkhurst E-flat, number 001 engraved on the barrel. I’m selling it despite it’s historical significance because I really can’t play it. My hands and fingers are very broad, and the first two holes on this whistle are too close together for me to play without banging my fingers together (and I still sometimes fail to completely cover the holes). mine is the smaller of the two whistles in the picture. Note that this photo is not of a whistle like mine, it is a photo of my whistle (taken before Dave shipped it off to me). I haven’t polished the whistle in the 2 years I’ve owned it, so it has a nice purplish brown patina. I’ll shine it up if that’s what the buyer wants. This whistle should have a good home with someone who will play it regularly. I think it sells for $75 now. E-mail me with an offer if interested.
Skip Healy blackwood D piccolo (6-hole, with the cutaway embouchure). For those not familiar, this piccolo resembles an Abell whistle - it’s a beautiful piece of African blackwood with sterling silver rings and joint (it’s a 2-piece). It looks like a miniature version of one of Skip’s Irish flutes. I have refitted a concert piccolo case to fit this instrument, and will ship the piccolo in that case. I have lovingly cared for this beauty for a little over a year - it has been regularly oiled and cleaned, and there is not a mark or a scratch on it. Value of the whole package new is $365. Cooperman B-flat fife. 6-hole fife made from persimmon (a dense, light colored wood). One piece. Styling is Civil War era, but this is not a re-enactor’s fife because of the light color. Not a bad player, though. See Cooperman’s page on this fife:
