Is Mr. Woof still taking orders?

Koehler and Quinn closed their books in 2001 amid rumours of an 8 year waiting list. If you don’t want to wait, there’s a David Quinn half set for sale at present:

Providing it hasn’t sold yet, this would be a good investment for you!

This another great place to keep an eye out for pipes being sold http://www.uilleannobsession.com/ . Loads of great instruments pass through realatively often. Look under the classified adds here… http://www.uilleannobsession.com/classifieds.html .

yeah, second-hand sets… what about Kenna sets( )? Do you think I’ll find one on ebay one day or another??

One never knows… stranger things have happened… but I think it an unlikely occurence.

There was a Willie Rowsome set on eBay last year:

(scroll about half way down the page)

oh my god, in the same page there’s a willy rowsome set in Bb!! :astonished: Where were I when all this happened??? I surely wouldn’t have had the money to buy it, but at least I would have tried to sell my mum for that!  …joking :pint: … maybe not :smiling_imp: …uhm

You actually might have easily afforded it. It went for an incredibly low price due to speculation about it’s authenticity as far as I remember. It was authentic and the buyer did the piping community a great service by having the set restored and left in the auspices of the Rowsome family.

Patrick.

The Rowsome Bb (in an Egan style) was the set in the Willie Rowsome photo seen in O’Neill’s. The set was ‘in bits’ as it surfaced in the Boston area in an eBAY auction along with some Patsy Browne chanters (that were excellent). Patsy Browne had modified the set, we believe, as the 4th reg had been removed and the bass reg folded over ‘American style’. Unfortunately, the original chanter was not with the contents of the auction (and unaccounted for) and all traces to the previous owner were unavailable. Brad Angus restored the set (ebony, brass, and ivory), added a chanter in that style, and then the set was put up on eBAY where it closed at $4,000. The new owner tried a different chanter with the set as KR had access to his collection of flat chanters with some possibly executed by Willie himself. The set was re-reeded and a different bag added too - work that is consistently done to any new owners taste and needs.

Sets that have turned up online, including eBAY, during that past few years have included the Beehive Egan set (it turns out not Egan but of that era), a Taylor set with a 4th reg (good amount of restoration needed), a Taylor set not made by Taylor (not too rare), a Rowsome set or two, Rowsome chanter, a couple of Patsy Browne sets, a Froment in C and D, a Geoff Woof set or two, a Scott set, Dave Williams sets, David Quinn sets, K&Q sets. Really amazing when you think of it.

Yep. Just through my site I’ve sold over $60,000 worth of stuff! Maybe I need to start charging a percentage! :astonished:

Patrick.

What!?!? You mean to say you haven’t been? Tsk tsk tsk Patrick, just where are your priorities.

For god sake! that’s some of the best stuff ever made! :astonished:
Do you think it’s due to the lack of interest in uilleann piping by some people who now play indian or japanese trad music and wanted to get rid of that? Not meaning to offend anybody… :stuck_out_tongue:

Meself in a way hope that some day, many “celtic-fashion-new-age” pipers will "be sensible, buy a saxophone and play real music " and let the jewels they own into the hands of… of … of… me!  Tah Tahn!

But seriously, what u think guys about that? It’s just me?

I sometimes dream of owning a flat set made by Geoff Woof. Mikie very kindly allowed me to play is C# half-set with the gourges G bass drone. The set was wonderfully balanced and intune, even with the regulators. I wonder if I could convince Mikie to some how twist Geoffs arm into making me a set, or lending me one indefinatly. Some recordings showing my emerging (don’t mean to sound like a big-head) talent might convince Geoff.

My dream is to somehow score either a Bb set similar to Patrick D’Arcy’s pipes or identical to the special anniversary editon. Highly unlikely I know but we can all dream can’t we

Cheers L42B

 If is it right that Geoff Wooff is coming to live in the South France, I will be interested to know where he will stay. I am born from South East and I know verry well this part of France. There is a good Irish traditional music player living in my familiy town “Vence”. You may know him…
 Let me know about Geoff Wooff, will be great to see him there.

He won’t be in the south of France and I think he’d be a lot more comfortable knowing not everybody knows where he is, as he is trying to get away from every man and his dog knocking on the door or phoning at all hours and do some work in peace.

Yes I understand.

You may want to give him a shout once he’s settled in, but he is getting away from the current stream of visitors (I dropped in the other week and he complained he had fifteen different people/groups dropping in all wanting tea, talk and attention and that didn’t include phonecalls and e-mails) so play the visiting by ear.

In reality his waiting list is only 6 months, but with all the visits that Peter talks about it shoots it up to 14 years. So with his move to said secret location, his pipes will be produced faster, his waiting list will revert back to 6 months, thus the e-bay prices of his pipes will plummet leading the market back into steady increase in affordability for all of us.

Cheers,

DavidG

If he did move to Florida, he could always have the use of my dog to keep the un announced visitor number down… he loves to keep visitors away!
