Is it just me?

Or is this cartoon just wrong?:

This is a daily syndicated cartoon, but I think the cartoonist was pulling our leg with this one. Or pulling something…

Hmmm.
I think it’s just you Paul.

I don’t find it particularly funny (lacks the subtlety needed for that,)
but nothing seems wrong otherwise.

Is it wrong? I guess that depends on your personal feelings about sexual fixations. A hoof fetish may well be considered perfectly normal amongst some segments of our society.

To me, has more of a Farside feel than fetish.

Nope. I’m with you, Brewerpaul. According to my research, “Hoof and Mouth Disease” is an obsolete term for what is now called “Foot and Mouth Disease”. I have never heard it called “Hoof and Mouth Disease” so the cartoon falls flat.

And even now I have heard it, the cartoon doesn’t pass muster.

<Awooogah!> Next!

I wouldn’t say “hoof and mouth” is obsolete - it’s still called that. It’s confused a lot with “hand, foot, and mouth” which is a totally different disease that often infects preschoolers. We get calls all the time at work about an outbreak of “hoof and mouth” at a daycare, when they mean hand, foot, and mouth.

But I don’t find the cartoon very funny, either.

I’ve certainly heard of it. I don’t think that this is a little-known term at all.

hoof-and-mouth disease
An obsolete term for foot-and-mouth disease.

I’m not making it up. I’m only going by what I find, and I had never heard the term before.

You haven’t been reading the right jokes.

It should read, obsolete in the UK.

That horse is way too … uh, happy.

Yeah, Guru gets it…
No, I don’t think the cartoon is especially funny (although some by the same cartoonist are quite humorous).

Recheck the justaposition of the Dr.'s feet with the horse’s body…
In the newspaper’s black and white, the effect was even more dramatic.

That’s because you’re from elsewhere.

A little blue makes all the difference. :astonished:

Yes, I see. If I place my cursor to cover up the doc’s pant leg…

Oh. It reminds me of the San Fransisco papers Weekenders is talking about that have boners everywhere.

:really: Read it as “hoof IN mouth disease” and you’ll see the . . . alleged. . . humor. <

I’m shocked that anyone would make light of such a dread illness . . . brrr! Leave it to some to make light of the misfortunes of others.

Speaking of unintentionally disturbing comic strips, I was quite surprised by
today’s Redeye (which usually is just racist, instead of unspeakably filthy):

Tsk. I mean, really, fearfaoin. Your mind is a cesspool.

Obviously the reference is to drowning. Clumsily put, I admit.

As to the OP, that particular cartoonist has only ever gotten blank looks out of me and, frankly, I wonder how he even gets syndicated. Call me dour.

I know… I’m terrible. Honestly, naming a lake after an RV. Disgusting.
