This is hard to ask, but a friend told me that Catherine McEvoy had been in an accident. Anyone able to assure me that this is stupid rumor?

Sounds like a rumor to me. I say this with a fair degree of certainty since her niece Fiadhna is currently on an extended visit here in Washington DC and has been sitting in at our sessions. (A great thing, as she’s a lovely concertina player.) In fact, I just saw her last night. She knows I know Catherine, so I would think that if there was bad news she would have mentioned it and been upset about it herself as well, which she wasn’t.
Could be that there’s some confusion due to the fact that one of Catherine’s main mentors on the flute, Peg McGrath, was killed in a car accident some years ago.
Catherine was in an accident a few years ago, but nothing serious. Friends are checking with her today to make sure everything’s okay!

My friend heard a rumor about an accident yesterday, but did not trust the source, so I checked here. She also plays flute, is helping me get started and is a great fan of Ms McEvoy’s playing.
Thanks to all for the info. If there was an accident years ago, I’m guessing it was just another example how a little bit of truth can take on a distorted life of its own and change over time.
Catherine McEvoy is just fine. Her mother isn’t doing well. No accident, just old age.
I’m glad to hear she’s OK, and best to her and her mother. My mother was ill for a long time before she died, and it just plain sucked.
