I’m not going to this one, but have been to them in the past. They are an awesome amount of fun for a weekend…Maureen Mulvey does a lot of the calling for the dance events, she’s a great dance teacher and caller (and a heck of a nice person too).
When the CCE North American annual convention was held in D.C., a couple of years ago, they offered a great deal of instruction on a variety of instruments, dance, language, etc.
Here is a link to the 1999 annual convention. While I don’t know how closely it resembles what will be offered in Boston, it should at least give you an idea of what typically goes on.
Thanks! Does anybody have any idea whether a convention like this would welcome relative beginners? I would like to attend a whistle section, even if it’s only to sit in and listen, depending on the quality of the players.
I’d also love to sit in on a pipes class, even though I don’t play them, just for the experience.

I’m not sure about this conventioon, but we visited Comhaltas Ceoltoiri in Monkstown just south of Dublin and it is a wonderful organization dedicated to preserving and nurturing traditional Irish arts. I’d be surprised if they did not welcome beginners!
I think you can also count on the music being authentic Irish Trad of the finest quality.
