Irvine CA Irish Fair

My family and friends had a wonderful time at the Irish Fair last Sunday , wonderful, except for the 90F temp and 80% humidity. It was almost painful watching the step dancers and vendors in costume. We heard a short demo of the Uilleann pipes by a member of the SCUPC. While the rest of the herd wandered off to the contemporary music, I was treated to a performance by Santa Barbara harpist Laurie Rasmussen. She played several O’Carolan planxtys and Drowsy Maggie. Never heard Drowsy Maggie on a harp before! Nice fair; music on three stages. I’m keeping it in mind for next year, weather permitting.

SCUPC members were there Saturday (Me and a bunch) and Sunday ( the other folks). I suspect it was Michael Eskin doing the demo on Sunnday. Check our web site www.socalpipers.com for pictures and commentary.

It was not good weather for pipes at 94F and 25% humidity.

Glad you enjoyed our demos

Yep, that was me, photo from my demo is now my new avatar.

Dreadful conditions for the pipes, I’m glad they survived the afternoon. Far better afternoon for tenor banjo, which I also had brought along for the day.
