Irish song collection

There have been a few questions about irish songs recently. I can recommend a collection of 4 books which I got from Steve Power: “Folksongs & Ballads Popular In Ireland”. Each volume contains 50 songs, so this is a total of 200 songs! Very useful for those who like to sing in pubs.

I have volumes 1-3. I like these book pretty well too. The ISBNs are sequential

Soodlum has a couple of books out that aren’t half bad. 100 Irish Ballads (ISBN 1-85720-010-1) and then there is a volume 2 as well that I don’t have. Both are available in many Irish import shops. If you want to broaden your horizons there is a truly wonderful book called “Songs of England, Ireland & Scotland: A Bonnie Bunch of Roses” that contains a lot of jewels you would be hard pressed to find in another collection. It is from Oak Publications, ISBN 0.8256.0256.4

Thanks for the specifics… I asked because there are several sets of similar books around, all with nearly identical titles, and I’m just trying to nail down the exact ones mentioned.

Barnes & Noble also stocks them all for US folks. Couldn’t find them by title, but an ISBN search (w/o spaces and punctuation) seems to work every time.

Perhaps a naive question, but as someone who collects Irish, Scottish, and Welsh songs in the original Celtic languages, are any of the songs in these collections in Gaelic? Enquiring minds and all that;-)
