I don’t know why people think ITM CDs are cheaper in Ireland. They are from 10% to 20% cheaper in the US, ordered either from Ossian, USA, or from Celtic Grooves. I do like Philippe Varlet of CG, but I love Ossian. It’s run by two lovely people whose love of music provides their sole support – Mary Lou Philbin (she of the wondrous voice) and Charley Clark (he of the wondrous word). They often travel to festivals far from NH (isn’t most everything) with their wares, which include hard to get CDs and books.
They work long hours and charge very low prices. They often take in waifs and strays of Irish music, feeding and caring for them with warmth and affection. These include world class as well as local musicians.
They also present such concerts as Tommy Peoples (truly solo, with just him and his fiddle), and Mike and Mary Rafferty in an intimate setting. Their concerts are held in a barn loft and are followed by houlies replete with great food and drink, all free. So my fellow Muricans, forget Knotted Chrod, Custy’s Music, et. al., fine people thought they are, and support our locals.
