Congratulations to the Irish team for not only winning their first Triple Crown in 19 years , but also having to be the first team to defeat the current World Champions in order to do it!!

There’ll be some sore heads in Dublin this morning !!

An explaination follows:-

*The game I am refering to is, of course, Rugby Union.

*There is a yearly ‘six nations’ tournament between England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, France and Italy.

*The Triple Crown is awarded if one of the ‘home nation’ teams (England, Ireland, Scotland or Wales) manages to beat all the others during the tournament.

*Ireland have managed this even though it meant beating the English who are the Rugby World Cup holders.

*I should mention I suppose in passing that the tournament was actually won by the French.

Yup, you suppose right, and with great hindsight as it happened last night. :stuck_out_tongue:
For a change, no-one’s ears (nor bbleep) were torn off, maybe because so many players now wear a Snoopy helmet (and armoured pants), especially in an England vs France game, and even with an Irish referee as was the case.

I’ll add (in passing) France wins the Grand Slam,
i.e. with a victory against each one of them insulary knnniggets.

And of course Italy, which appears in the Five Nations Tournament (now six) as a dubious if modern add-on, like thumb holes to a whistle… or crowns to a Republic. :wink:

considering there’s only 4 million people living in ireland,
and considering rugby union is the 4th most popular game,
after gaelic football, hurling, and soccer,
it sure is a mighty win. :party: :party: :party: :party:
