Both my WMA devices list track names and numbers. the catch is that you have to have them recorded as such on your computer before you transfer them to your device. The easy way to do this (as opposed to entering them manually, which you can do as well) is to connect to the internet and let WMP (if you have 10.1 or better, that is. I don’t know about earlier versions.) update it for you. The program should auto update any new information ripped to your hard drive since your last internet session. Just bring up WMP 10.1 while you are connected to the internet and it should so it automatically.
That’s the way I get it done anyways, ymmv.
The tricky part is that a lot of MP3 players, like my Lyra, will use the
ID3 tag instead of the file name. So you have to use some sort of ID3 Tag editor to get things sorted correctly…
I’ve never had any problems like that, track numbers have always worked fine for me. Maybe the H10 did, I wouldn’t know having never seen one, but my H140 never has. The H140 has now been replaced with another model anyway.
I’ve had one firmware upgrade since I got it, so I’m on version 1.65 now.
I often fall asleep to stories on my iRiver, and I like the option of the timer (1-99 minutes) or playing a whole folder of stuff and then stopping. meantime the unit is plugged into the mains charging, so in the mornign it’s all ready for another day. The battery will play for about 10-12 hours from fully charged.
In thinking of a portable video player, I opted for a portable DVD player, as it has a nice size screen, and you can get all kinds of DVD’s, and inexpensively. Not to mention, that portable DVD players themselves aren’t very expensive. Also I can burn Mp3’s to CD for it. One CD will hold a very large amount of MP3’s. On one CD, I have multiple episodes of various radio sitcoms, on MP3, as well as two long novels (check out Librivox web site for free audiobooks, read by volunteers), and lots of room to spare on a single disc. The entire New Testament will fit on a single disc, in MP3, whereas it takes numerous discs on regular audio CD.
