Introduction from New Member

Hello all!
I would like to introduce myself here as I have been a lurker for a long time but never a member.
My name is Todd and I live in Indiana. I am a 39 year old single father of one teenage boy going on middle aged man I think sometimes. I am proud to be an American and patriotic through and through but also very proud to be of Irish decent.
And take that heritage very seriously.

I am a relatively new whistle player and tend to find myself most concretely in the Low D camp. I do love all whistles but something about that haunting Low D that I just cannot get enough of. I am also a guitar player though when i played actively I was not into Irish folk unfortunately and have not played much in years. Funny how you get married, have a child and get wrapped up in your career you lose site of a lot of those important things that made you who you are. Hence picking up the Irish whistle as a new thing just for me what I have always wanted to learn.

I currently own a Tony Dixon Composite Low D that I use for most practicing as that is nice and quiet so as to not wake up my teenage son late at night when i tend to have time to practice. I also have a Burke Viper Low D that I bought last year because I wanted to have a metal low d well just because dont we all need more whistles
I do love that whistle and it plays like a dream especially for a noob like myself. Very forgiving!

Well today I finally took the step of aquiring my dream whistle when it comes to haunting tone and what I hope to be my best friend for the rest of my time here on this earth, a Goldie Overton Low D. I am so excited because I really thought that one of these was out of my reach but low and behold I ran across one at the Irish Flute Store used and quickly snatched it up! And I want to give a bit shout out to the gentleman that runs the Irish Flute Store as he was very helpful and a joy to do biz with! I will no doubt go back to him for future purchases providing my Overton makes it home in one piece

Anyway that is a little about me and I want to thank all of you for all of your wonderful insight into my new hobby and I look forward to being an active member here and not just a lurker

Howdy, Todd–welcome! Glad you’ve joined us.

Susan

Welcome Todd. The Low D is great. You should consider tucking some cheap High D’s away in the car and other places. That’ll make traffic jams, drive thru’s, and waiting while you pick up the teenage boy for something or other make the time go quicker. Plus, there has got to be an embarassment factor there too. Imagine how cool his friends will think you are.

Welcome!!! I hope everything goes great on your whistle journey. Try to talk you son into an instrument too.
