Hi, all, just found and registered onto your site, and would like to take this opertunity to introduce myself. I`m living near Birmingham, U.K. have a full set of concert pitch pipes and have been trying to play for about 6 years. I am of fairly small stature, and really struggle to bring the regs into play but keep trying much to the nieghbours annoyance. If anyone in the U.K. reads this, i would like the address of someone who sells pipe cases( big enough to put the pipes into without taking them apart).
I look foreward to scanning the many pages of articles on this site and maybe meeting some of you fellow pipers.

Welcome to C&F Neill,
I hope you enjoy the ride!
Neill, everyone would like to find a case that holds a full set comfortably. I use a pre-cast double shotgun case. Check out a hunting or sporting goods shop. They’re only 4" deep, though, so you’ll have to replace the foam.
The best way to go is to find someone who makes custom guitar cases for musicians in your area. This will cost you, but the case can be made to ATA standards if your pipes get a notion to travel.

this is the only thing i’ve found to do a decent job of it. keep in mind, even if the case is big enough, if it allows the pipes to rattle around or lean wrong they could break inside the case.

you trace the instrument and any compartments you want and send him a 1:1 scale blueprint with your payment and in about two or three weeks you get your custom built fits-like-a-glove case.
Welcome, Neill.
It sounds as if you aren’t an immediate candidate for a Wooff Bb ![]()
A custom-made flight case has its merits, but it will be relatively expensive and some are quite heavy.
If you don’t expect to be doing the kind of travel that requires that, you should check out some gun and similar shops.
I use an archery case made by an Italian company called Negrini</a](http://www.negrinisrl.com/home.htm>Negrini</a)>. The precise model that I use isn’t illustrated on their website, but it’s ideal. I just have to remove the bass drone slide, and there’s room for bits and pieces like one or more low whistles, tuner, minidisc and A4 music books (not that I’d use one of them, of course
). As far as I know they make two archery models, and mine is the shorter one (I’d estimate that it’s between 3 and 4 ft long). I got it from a piper living in France who picked it up for about €100 in a general sports shop and removed the foam lining. I haven’t travelled with it by air yet, but it’s sufficiently light and compact in appearance for me to be hopeful that I would be allowed to take it on board as cabin luggage.
If you’re interested in following up and find a dealer that stocks Negrini cases, let me know and I’ll check mine out, there’s a model number embossed somewhere inside it (I’m writing from work so can’t check it now!).
Hi Neil, Hobgoblin in Manchester (Oxford Road) have a contact who will make a Flight Case to order (any size you want) for around £100.Good luck!
Hello,
as I live in Paris, I would like to inform you that a man builds nice cases for “rare” instruments (i.e. bandoneons, teorbos, mandoloncelle, …). Maybe would he accept to create the type of cases you are looking for ?
his website adress is : http://pierre.fab.free.fr/cases.html
sincerely,
Basil
hi neil i had a pipe case made for me a few months back, and it might be what your looking for.its a flight case. its a little bigger than normal because the sponge was an inch thick all round but its well made.but i have a new case with my new pipes and dont need it.so if your interested you can email me and i will send a pic.
Hi Neill. and welcome! You will enjoy surfing back through all the posts here. A lot of us are beginners and get all or most of our info here due to being in areas without many if any other pipers. Good to have you around!
Paul
Thanks to everyone who`s made comments about cases. As a result my pipes now have a flight case, curtesy of danny from Manchester, whom i met this morning on the M6.
I`ve posted a link to a picture of my pipes:

Sorry its not very big, but if anyone wants a bigger image, let me know and i`ll e-mail you one.
Hi Neill
I am a whistle player (not great yet, but getting there) in Wolverhampton. I started going to local folk festivals - maybe meet up sometime? I don’t know how to play the uillean bagpipes, but love the sound they make. Unfortunately my Neil doesn’t - unless played by an expert at a distance. Then he likes.
A joke for you. You know the bagpipes were classified as a weapon? (this is true - the great pipes strike the fear of god into any enemy - if you heard that you knew you were doomed - the black guard were coming to get you.) Well, the Irish tend to lose our battles, don’t we. You know why? Try marching and playing the uillean bagpipes at the same time! ![]()
Also, the great gaels of Ireland are the men that God made mad, for all our wars are merry, and all our songs are sad.
Callybeg.
Hi Callybeg,
Have sent you a message (pm) but as i havnt been on here long, i dint know if ive done it right. If you cant find it i apologise and let me know. A good simple tune to learn is the blackthorn stick, do you know it?
