Interlaced fingering postion...

Did you know that it is true Irish Tradition to start playing the whistle with your hands interlaced? The index fingers cover the top two holes, the middle fingers cover the next two, and the ring fingers covering the bottom two holes.

I have this on good authority.

I dare you to post this in the ITM forum …

OK I just tried that on a high d whistle, and when I lift my fingers to play they spring back togeather away from the holes. Seems like it would look cool if a person could do that.

Honestly, I don’t think it would be practical at all. The finger spread would be unhandy and it isn’t at all intuitive to the pattern of play. A friend of mine, a very talented but also very gullible young man, was led to believe this by a young woman who claims expertise, he believes her because she’s of Irish descent … I think he’s heading for walking funny, as one leg gets longer and longer from being pulled.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm…

Hmmmmm I think I should measure my legs.

Let’s wait to see what our shins look like after the ITM board folk respond…

That looks freakin’ awesome. I’m gonna practice for a bit and see if I can pick it up.

It’s certainly true Irish Tradition to say things like that if you can get someone to believe you. My son came back from Dublin last year and warned my wife that they’d have a field day with her, she’s so gullible.

This technique turns the whistle into an effective tool for producing the exact call needed to lure snipe . . .
