Whilst I’m familiar with the kaval, shakuhachi and quena I’ve never seen anything like this before, it has a normal emboucher hole but on the end of the flute, anyone got any information about this; and no i won’t be bidding I’ve got more than enough to cope with.
Do a web-search. There’s a section about them on Terry’s website and on Rick Wilson’s too, and they came up in a recent thread on the Whistle forum, and there was a concert flute size one on eBay not long back, I think. I haven’t seen an ordinary fingering (rather than his own system) application of Giorgi’s head before, nor a Bb band flute size one, though. Interesting.
This one looks to be quite a rare one. I had a fully chromatic one with a bunch of keywork, but the fingering was so bizarre I just couldn’t hang on to it. If you want a bizarre(but practical) fingering, go for the kaval. The sound is quite nice though, and the idea applied to an Irish flute would work quite well. Once I get me a lathe and a milling machine that’s going to be my first project I think.
