Instrument pictures

In the past I’ve seen some great pictures of people’s whistle/flute collections, including JessieK’s museum quality collection, none-too-few from Loren and even a full set of Overtons. I’d love to see what people are playing these days, so I’m going to start by posting a picture of my current collection, the result of six years of hard work trying to find my perfect whistles and flutes (and now drums).
Please add your own pictures to this thread, preferably with descriptions of each instrument.

From left to right:

Nice pictures! Chris, I have that quilt! When I get back to NY, perhaps I’ll take a picture of my instruments. The other picture is completely outdated.

 J

I dont’ have any pictures, but my collection isn’t anything particularly notable anyhow (y’all should already know what they all look like at any rate).

I own: A generation G, three Generation Fs (but one, alas, is deceased by fipple-crack), a gen Eb, a gen D, a gen C, and a gen Bb; a sweetone D and C and a meg D (thanks anna!), and an oak D and a clare 2pc that sounds icky in the second octive despite my tweaking attempts and I never play it…

whew

Let’s see if I can remember my html right!

My whistles from left to right are:
Ian Lambe Low D
Cillian O’Briain Low F
Dixon Low G
Sindt A
Sindt Bb
Mack Hoover B
Sindt D
Rose D
Hoover Narrow Bore D
Hoover “Arrow Shaft” D
Cillian O’Briain Improved D
Sindt Eb
O’Riordan E (The Sindt D & Eb bodies fit on it as well)

My guitar is a Lowden and my Bodhran is an 18" Kevin O’Connel.

Of course my arsenal is always changing. Coming are a Busman Bocote D and a Sindt B & C… I’m also getting into smaller diameter Bodhrans…so one of those I’m sure will find its way into the family soon! I may have to go for a Forkner 14"x12"! Mmmmm…

Amazingly, if I had to pick one whistle that I could never sell… It would be my Dixon G… For one, it just plays great! It also blends well with a flute for doing duo material… Part of the reason of course why I wouldn’t sell it… It was so cheap, why sell it! I absolutely love my Rose & Sindt Ds… Well, I love all these instruments… That’s why I’ve kept them! Once you get it warmed up the Cillian O’Briain F is hard to put down.

Good idea Chris!

Well, I don’t have any pics, or even a scanner, so my text description will have to suffice…

Two Feadog Brass D’s (one has brown marker text on the back saying “bad mouthpiece”- I half-way ruined it trying to tweak it…)
Clarke orig. D, Natural finish (complete w/tarnish markings)
Clarke orig. D, Black & Gold Livery
Clarke orig. C, Black & Gold Livery
Clarke Sweetone D, Natural finish (Dom- short for Domick)
Clarke Sweetone c, Natural finish (Merv)
Susato Soprano Kildare D, black (Rick- Short for Toirneach)
Weltmeister Sop. D, black (I never play it)

Hopefully I’ll be getting a Susato Soprano Kildare C in black to go with my D. (wonderful seisiun/ensemble/solo whistles- very responsive and they sound good.)

Custom left-handed Dean 6 string bass.

Ya lucky dawg! That’s my dream axe!

I feel the same about mine!

Now, my instrument list:

Whistles - Dixon G, full set of Generations, Feadog, Oak, and Waltons D’s, Gill recorder (sorry), antique Tonette, small Chilean end-blown wooden flute.

Guitars - Peavey acoustic, Peavey electric, Fender bass, unknown-maker nylon string.

Percussion - Unknown-maker 16" bodhran, unknown-maker tambourine, Toca egg-shaker.

My guitar is a Lowden

I agree, nice guitar. Of course, my dream guitar is an Olson. But, in the mean time I’ll be happy with 3 Seagulls, 2 Yamahas and an Oscar Schmidt acoustic bass. Oh, and a few whistles also, maybe 25 or so, and an Olwell bamboo flute. Plus a mando and a fiddle, and about a dozen harmonicas, a kinnor, a synthe, assorted shakers and rattling things. No jaws harp yet, though.

Yep… Olsen used to be my “dream” guitar… Of course you could say that I play my dream guitar! I just love Lowdens… If I was however to depart…there would be only one choice - http://www.truenorthguitars.com/home.html - Dennis and I met at a guitar symposium and hit it off. He even used some of my playing of his guitar as an example on his demo CD. I’m on his CD with the likes of David Wilcox, Muriel Anderson, Stanley Jordon, etc… Quite an honor… Anyway, check out his site… Nothing but eye and ear candy!

ooooohhhh! look at all of the pretty toys! I would show some of mine too, but this computer stuff makes me want to go into a corner and drink.
Can I say what I have?

1 Lehart flute, which is extreme oral pleasure.

1/2 set of (you be) illin’ pipes by this guy named Martin Preshaw, who rocks the sack.

1 Mosrite Ventures guitar

16 Metloef bodhrans (but 12 of them are in-process)

1 bottle of gin

By the time I would post a picture I won’t have anymore gin, so does it really count?

By the way, if you want anything, ask Blayne. He has lots.

Merry Christmas, fellow pond scums!

I’ve been surfing True North’s site for a few months now, and wondering what they play like. I almost listed them as on my wish list, but haven’t gotten near one.

Ian Melrose and Noel Duggan play Lowdens. Of course, they could probably make my Peavey sound good, too!

OK…but no snide remarks about the company my whistles are keeping, mind!

From Left to Right:

  1. My first whistle…a brass Generation Eb, circa 1975 or so

  2. A nickel Generation Eb, circa 1985, which I bought when I thought the brass one had been lost in a move.

  3. Cillian O Briain “improved”

  4. MEG D

  5. MEG C

  6. Susato Dublin D

  7. Elfsong Coppertone, C tube in “Starry Night”

8 ) The D tube for the Elfsong, in “Emerald Gold”

  1. Stock Feadog (purchased recently when I had time on my hands and nothing at hand to play)

  2. Yamaha Soprano Recorder, circa 1975

  3. Consort Soprano Recorder (from Israel), in walnut, circa 1977

  4. Yamaha Alto Recorder (which I am still learning to play)

Redwolf

Hmm, no scanner, or website, so here is my (quite small in comparison)list:
Green Sweetone in C
Black with icky diamonds Clake’s Original in D
Summer’s Night with Stars C/D Sweetone
1 Fender Guitar
A Piano (no idea who made it, but it has the perfect sound that you can only get with old pianos)
and soon to be added-a bodhran…any suggestions as to what make? Not too expensive, as I am a student!

Kaitlin

Chris and David…about those Overton bass A whistles…do you have finger extentions that you wear when playing them?

I can’t resist this topic when it comes up. Here’s my deconstructive interpretation of “Wind”.

p.s. it helps to post the picture!
