Instrument Camp!

I am off to Instrument Camp, run by Kate & Corwen, here. Ancient Music ~ Kate & Corwen's Homepage

I have been working hard and playing hard since August, when I was given two serious Database Upgrades to do. I had to miss Kate & Corwen’s Handfasting (wedding) on account of weekend working. This will be the first time I’ve seen them since then. They are both accomplished musicians, and capable woodcraft instructors, and they are just lovely people!

If we follow instructions properly we should end up making a shamanic drum, a bone-flute, a rattle, a bull-roarer and a few other things. If we don’t have some kind of a musical session around something like a camp-fire I shall be very surprised and disappointed.

Wish me luck!

 luck ya want do ya?

Have a good time!

Kate is a Schoolteacher. Felicity got detention and I got homework.
Felicity got detention because she elected to make a fipple bone-flute, which is more complicated than the quena-style ones the rest of us chose to do. It just took longer.
I got homework because I brought my own bone, which had been lying around for thirty years. It was nice and clean - no marrow to clean out - but sadly it cracked in two places, and I couldn’t get a note out of it. So Corwen gave me a goat-bone to take home. I know what I have to do with it. My family are horrified. Strange, since they are the meat eaters and have a lot of meat in the freezer, and I am a vegetarian and normally have none…

But I came home with

  1. A soggy drum of Red Deer skin (which will take a week to dry)
  2. A mouth-bow (like a size twelve jaws-harp)
  3. A bull-roarer
  4. A cracked bone-flute
  5. A rattle
  6. A beater (for the drum)
  7. A horn horn (if you catch my drift). It’s Loud!

No running water on site so a bath is a high priority.
