Injured piccolo, suggestions?

Proud new owner of an injured piccolo. It has a crack in the 2nd section, and next to no info about it.

I love a mystery.

So…can anyone tell me anything about it…other than its a cracked piccolo. :astonished:

Also, any suggestions about how to “deal with” the crack?

Typically, such cracks are repaired with a mixture of sawdust and cyanoacrylate, preferably
sawdust of the same type of wood as the instrument.

I can’t tell for sure what wood that is. It is not the African Blackwood that might be expected, but maybe something in the same family. It looks rosewoodish, but wood
identification from grain alone is exceedingly tricky and I’m not claiming to be an expert.

You may want to get the crack repaired by a professional.

I’d think a specialist too, especially for piccolos, because the tolerances are so small. You could try Dr. Eldred Spell.

Please tell me you meant that bit as a joke Glauber!

I should have checked the picture; i didn’t realize it was a barrell crack.

I’m not sure which piece i meant as a joke, but, sure!

I was going to make a joke about the Flute Maker’s motto being “No crack too big, or too small”, but decided it would be in bad taste…
