Info from the Positively Testcard: BBC show, and C&F tri

Just got the following from Adam Keelan of the Testcard. I clicked on the link to the BBC show, but did not get to actually hear it. Perhaps a better surfer can find it and tell us the way.
Note also the possibility of a Testcard show in conjunction with the still speculative C&F Crusade to London!

Hi Paul - thought I should alert all kwela fans to a fantastic BBC Radio 4 doc. that went out last Saturday and is available to listen to on the web until THIS saturday - it’s the history of township music in South Africa, in which , of course, kwela has a significant role. It’s not chock a block with whistling - but essential background as far as we’re concerned over here. http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/factual/archivehour.shtml

On a separate note - I noticed there may be a trip to London by a few stateside whistlers (or is it just Dale?) in Nov - we haven’t got any gigs planned but could probably organise something if we could cover our costs (which wouldn’t really be huge but might be around £5 for admission). It would probably also need to be a weekday (presupposing any interest at all)!..this is a non commercial proposition but it would be fun to do something for enthusiasts …hope you’re well. Regards
Adam

I wish Adam had told us the name of the Programme - I’ve searched for the obvious choices but couldn’t find it.

It would be great if we did get to see them play though! I’d cough up a tenner if needs be.

Since it’s a major hassle to order Positively Testcard, I looked up kwela on Amazon and they have a CD by Spokes Mashiyane. How does his music compare to PT as far as whistle music goes?

Actually, it’s not a major hassle to order Testcard. I ordered my copy from www.sternsmusic.com. and had the CD within a week.

Larry

Thanks Larry! And of all things, I just got a PM from Adam Keelan!! Wow, it’s almost like getting an autograph. It’s a cyber autograph!

Let’s see if this works with anyone else: “Hmmm, you know, it’s almost impossible to get a CD by Mary Bergin.” Let’s see if she’s lurking. Too bad Micho Russell isn’t with us any more, I’d try this with him.

I’ve proposed the Chiff & Fipple Positively Testcard Interview.

You gotta love a band with a name like that, not to mention a CD entitled “The Indestructible Beat of South Norwood,” which gets my nomination for the hippest CD title ever, with the possible of exception of the Butthole Surfer’s “Hairway to Steven.”

Dale

Dale-- did you propose it to the Testcard themselves? That would be a great interview! I’ve e-mailed Adam Keelan ( terrific guitar player) and whistle whiz Dave Woodhead from time to time, and they are great, very articulate guys.

Yes. I’m in touch by email with Adam. Dave’s on vacation and a Ludditte, evidently, so he’ll be a bit harder to connect with but Adam’s working it. We’re going to do the interview.

Dale

Hey, waita doggone minute… Adam doesn’t play whistle, but he’s sending PMs? A lurking guitar player! Shouldn’t we alert the Fipple Police?

I think their second CD, “Gas up your Hotrod Stoker, The Kwela Groove Frenzy’s Hit Town” is pithier.

Naturally. They’re English too.

Well now I’m disillusioned. I thought they were South African.

No, Blackhawk, they’re definitely British - but you won’t find a more addicyive CD than “Gas Up My Hot Rod Stoker…”.
