Of course we’re all happy to see the UP forum back up and running. How ironic that in order to cure its ills we now see it “moderated” by one who’s expressed the following sorts of anti-social personal beliefs:
“No Offense, but public discourse has always been vulgar, filled with colorful metphore and base innuendo…This isn’t Sesame Street… If you feel this forum might offend young eyes, then suggest to said young eyes they look elsewhere.”
Or:
"The incredible and mighty ‘Flame Page’ is here!!!.
Everybody’s opinions (especially mine) suck rotten eggs, and spew colorful, vommitous chunks at the intelligence of anyone with half a brain!!
Now, I want you all to be rotten little gits and commence to flamming!"
And of course, he obviously thinks he’s running a drumming forum on top of all his other provocation.
y’know, I am not sure if a guy wearing a darth vader mask while playing the pipes should be moderating; that should be an immediate disqualifier. Although, if he can play “Imperial March”, “March of the Ewoks”, “Yoda’s Theme” or even the “Star Wars Theme”, I will gladly excuse him. Does the mask help maintain air pressure? Do you lose air pressure when you take it off? Just having some fun, Joseph. You were first on my list for a candidate, though I offered to help myself.
Ok, if it isn’t obvious enough yet. It has been made painfully clear that no one’s freedom of opinion is to be curtailed.
However, while everyone is free to express their opinions on any topic they like, what is required is that a certain decorum be met. Essentially, that you do not attack others with your post.
You are allowed to knock people’s workmanship playing etc. obviously. Hell, the moderators even allow non-constructive criticism.
But, intentionally insulting others, the use of profanity, the use of inappropriate language and reference is prohibited. So…
We all live in the real world right? Where it is unacceptable to go about insulting people, and expressing our opinion disrespectfully. The bottom line is that we are modern people, and that we should be capable of executing our discourse without feeling the need to offend, or belittle others.
Honestly, for those of you breaking the rules, why do you bother? This is an online community, being part of a community means respecting certain rules in order that the everyone in that community can be comfortable. You should perhaps consider how you would feel if the other thousand or so members suddenly began abusing you all over the forums.
